This is one of London's busiest spots. The stream of traffic at this point is great and constant. The ornate stone monument is a replica of the original Charing Cross, one of many erected by Edward I. In memory of his Queen Eleanor. On the right is the grand hotel entrance to Charing Cross Station, the terminus of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway.

Pre 1901 "Queen Victoria's wish for large rooms to host musical performances and offer entertaining in Buckingham Palace came to fruition in 1852 when architect James Pennethorne completed two new rooms: the Ball Room and the Ball Supper Room, linked by galleries to Nash’s state apartments at their southern end. Edward VII swiftly redecorated it in white and gold finish coming to the throne in 1901." https://www.rct.uk/

Pre 1911 from the London Views series. In 1829 the Post Office moved from Lombard St into Robert Smirke's imposing neoclassical building in St Martins- Le-Grand. It was simply known by locals as 'The Grand'. This building housed the Postmaster General, The Secretary and administrative staff along with sorting offices for London, the provinces and overseas. Due to increase of demand it was sadly demolished in 1912-13.

Hyde Park Corner Early 1900 - most seem to have been posted around 1903/1906. Hyde Park Corner/Hyde Park Screen was designed by Decimus Burton in 1828 as a grand approach to Buckingham Palace and as a corner entrance to the Park. The frieze on the central arch was created by John Henning Jnr along with his father and brother, it is thought to have been inspired by the Elgin Marbles. Made out of Portland Stone.

Around 1905 Although a church has stood on this site since 1222 the current building dates to around 1724 with the design by James Gibbs. The total cost was £33,661. While initially the church was quite literally 'in the fields' through the 1700s the area had become crowded with buildings almost touching it's outer walls until the 1820s when Trafalgar Square was built with a grand path leading to the steps. One of my favourite churches of London as my great great grandparents married here.
